What is the OPTAVIA Coach Certification Exam?
OPTAVIA offers a Certification Exam to help our independent OPTAVIA Coaches become more knowledgeable about our products and programs, including the Habits of Health® Transformational System.
Is the Certification Exam offered still associated with Villanova University or the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE)?
No, as of May 6, 2023, OPTAVIA’s Certification Exam certification is no longer associated with Villanova University nor the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE). 
Is OPTAVIA’s Certification Exam for a Health Coach Certification?
There are numerous programs (accredited and unaccredited) that offer to train individuals to become a “Certified Health Coach.” OPTAVIA’s Certification Exam is not an accredited or unaccredited “Health Coach” certification.
Once I pass the Certification Exam, what can I say about my Certification?
OPTAVIA Coaches who completed their Coach Certification Exam prior to May 6, 2023, can refer to their Certification in the following ways:
- “[Coach Name], independent Certified OPTAVIA Coach;”
- “[Coach Name], certified by OPTAVIA in partnership with the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education & M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at Villanova University;” or
- “[Coach Name], certified by OPTAVIA in partnership with the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE) & M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at Villanova University.”
OPTAVIA Coaches who complete the Certification Exam after May 6, 2023, can only refer to their Certification in the following way:
- “[Coach Name], independent Certified OPTAVIA Coach."
How do I purchase the Certification Exam?
- Go to OPTAVIA.com and log in with your username and password.
- Choose SHOP from the main navigation then select Coach Store.
- Select Certification Course/Exam then click Add to Cart.
- Click Checkout and then complete the checkout process.
How much does the Certification Course/Exam cost?
The OPTAVIA Coach Certification exam is $49.00.
How many questions are in the Certification Exam?
The OPTAVIA Certification Exam consists of 150 questions.
What is a passing score for the Certification Exam?
A minimum score of 70% is needed to pass the OPTAVIA Certification Exam.
Can I stop in the middle of the exam and resume at a later time?
To resume an exam, follow the steps below:
- Log in to OPTAVIA CONNECT.
- Hover your mouse over Learn in the navigation bar and then select the Certification Exam from the drop-down options.
- Click Courses from the OPTAVIA Buzz home page.
- Click on OPTAVIA Certification Exam (the blue Taking Exam button indicates that the exam has been started).
- Click the green Resume button, located on the right side of the screen.
